Annique and the Story of Rooibos

Founder, Dr Annique Theron received the Woman Inventor of the Year Award in 1997 from the World Intellectual Property Organisation for her discovery of the unique properties of Rooibos tea and for the development of her patented Rooibos extract used in her product ranges. Dr Theron also received Marie Claire Prix d'Excellence Awards for several of her products.



Dr Annique Theron was responsible for creating an awareness of the magic of the Rooibos plant in recent times when she made the amazing discovery in 1968 that Rooibos Tea not only alleviates allergies internally, but also externally.



The Tea had such a calming and soothing effect on her own allergic baby daughter that she wanted to share this knowledge with mothers all over the world. She was surprised at how quickly the tea relieved infant colic, allergies and insomnia. At that time, there was hardly any information available on the natural therapeutic properties of Rooibos Tea. Dr Theron set out to find out as much as she could about this wonderful plant through her own studies. She wanted to be able to exploit the plant's unique properties to its fullest potential.

Dr Theron published her findings in her book: Allergies: an Amazing Discovery .Dr Theron also found that Rooibos had powerful rejuvenating and anti-oxidant qualities. Dr Theron's findings were later scientifically verified by international scientists. Japanese scientists in particular, published a number of research reports on Rooibos tea over the years.
